Homes For The Holidays

November 5, 2026

As the holiday season approaches, one of the most charming ways to get into the spirit is by stepping inside a beautifully decorated home. Historic holiday house tours are popping up across New Jersey, offering a glimpse of stunning interiors, festive traditions and seasonal inspiration.

From the beloved candlelight tours of Cape May to charming homes throughout North Jersey, there are several opportunities over the next few weeks to take in the holiday magic. Bring the entire family or a few friends, soak up the sights and perhaps pick up a few decorating ideas of your own along the way.

  • The Holidays at Drumthwacket. The governor’s official residence in Princeton is open for free, self-guided tours. Guests can check out first-floor rooms, which are decorated by the Garden Clubs of New Jersey. Guests also may tour the grounds, weather permitting.
  • Cape May’s 52nd Annual Christmas Candlelight House Tours. For the 52nd year, Cape May MAC (Museums, Arts, Culture) is offering self-guided tours of decorated homes, inns, B&Bs, churches and hotels, most within walking distance of each other. Tickets are available online.
  • Essex County Holiday House Tour. The Montclair History Center is housed in a 230-year-old home and is the site for this tour, which features festive period décor curated by the Garden Club of Montclair. Tour tickets are available for either Dec. 5 or 6 and can be purchased online.
  • Ocean Grove Holiday House Tour. Now in its 40th year, this tour takes visitors through privately owned historic homes that are decked out for the season. Tickets for the Dec. 5 tours are available online. Complimentary trolley rides are available.
  • Ridgewood Holiday House Tour. The Ridgewood Historical Society offers tours of six private residences in the Bergen County village. Tours are offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6. Purchase tickets online. Proceeds will benefit the Ridgewood Historical Society & Museum and the College Club of Northern NJ.
  • Historic Burlington Holiday House Tours. Peek inside 14 residences and historic buildings in Burlington, each showcasing the love of holidays and the season. Tours will be available from 3 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 6.
