Sit And Stay Awhile

March 4, 2026

Spring is so close we can taste it, and we are longing to throw open the windows and invite the warm air inside—and invite our loved ones along with it. With Eid, Easter and Passover all on their way, you’ll soon have many reasons to do just that. Is your home ready for it?

Nothing transforms a house into a true entertainment zone like a beautiful living room. Here is the space that truly welcomes people to sit down, get talking and enjoy each other’s company.

We flipped through NJ HOME’s archives, plus the archives our sister publication, BERGEN, for some of our favorite living rooms, all curated for your enjoyment:

Subtle changes gave this Paramus living room, designed by Jennifer Pacca, a seriously impactful refresh. Built-in shelves make storage chic, and the wooden ceiling beams and upholstered curtains add an appealing coziness to a room created for gathering.

Tasked with making the living room of the Rumson vacation home into a sanctuary equal parts relaxed and refined, Jessica Fischer of JFD Creative used curated coastal elements and lots of textures. Everything is bright, airy and filled with light.

This home in North Caldwell got a Mediterranean makeover at the hands of Marissa Sauer of Design Macs. The living room is all drama, with souring 19-foot ceilings, floor-to-ceiling silk drapes and a Juliet balcony.

With a floor-to-ceiling fireplace, this Franklin Lakes home already had a “wow” factor. Designer Elizabeth Akguc added a timelessness with an ivory rug and custom Chesterfield-style sofas, and an abstract over the hearth ties the whole space together.

An Upper Saddle River home needed an upgrade to become a multigenerational attraction for the homeowners, their four adult children and two grandchildren. Once again, Pacca combined drama and sophistication for a great room that feels warm and welcoming.

This Avalon summer home, designed by Karen Wolf, is an ode to that season’s warmth. The living room is effortlessly coastal, with peachy tones and blues keeping it elevated and inviting. Above the fireplace, herringbone tile runs all the way to the ceiling.

The power of art is on full display in this Princeton living room, created by Anna Maria Mannarino of Mannarino Design LLC. Light-colored hardwood and black-and-white rugs are neutral to ensure the remote gas fireplace and the painting above it are the stars of the show.
