An ordinary kitchen might have sufficed for most folks, but not for this party-giving pair in Kinnelon.

When your house is the one family and friends come to for holidays, summer get-togethers and a host of other social occasions, a dark, traditional kitchen with a two-level island just won’t cut it. So when a Kinnelon couple wanted a lighter, brighter, more open space to better host their many guests, they sought out the help of Sharon L. Sherman, designer at Thyme & Place Design in Wyckoff.
“They have a big familyand are big party people,” says Sherman of the homeowners and their three college-aged kids. “We designed the kitchen to accommodate large parties.”
That meant leveling out the existing island for more surface space and putting show-stopping white quartz Viatera countertops from Stone Surfaces in its place. The new wet bar area, one of the homeowners’ requests, features a second sink with a Delta Trinsic faucet. The lady of the house also wanted dark accents to counteract the stark white, so Sherman chose black light fixtures from Visual Comfort and completed the look with complementary gray porcelain subway tile.
The whole renovation took about six weeks start to finish. “They had leaky skylights so we had to replace those,” Sherman adds. “It was pretty involved.”
It was worth it to create a truly party-worthy kitchen. The final result? Just plain pretty.
