During the Gilded Age, Spring Lake was a coastal resort town for well-to-do New York and Philadelphia families who built beautiful Victorian “cottages” for their summer escapes. See them for yourself on June 1, during the Historic Showcase House Tour, which will feature seven homes, each more than 100 years old.
The Spring Lake Historical Society has organized the tour to commemorate the town’s incorporation 125 years ago. In addition to the homes, the historic Normandy Inn (bottom, formerly the Audenried Cottage) and St. Catharine Catholic Church (top, built between 1901 and 1902 in memory of a wealthy resident’s daughter) will be featured, as well as The Historical Society’s Museum, which boasts a new exhibit saluting the town’s anniversary. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased in advance at Spring Lake stores Kate & Company, Camel’s Eye and J. McLaughlin, or call 732.974.1476 or email djlau34@aol.com. Tickets will also be available on the day of the tour at the Spring Lake Train Station.
