An open floor plan and a neutral palette allow for an easy flow of family and guests throughout the space, while granite countertops and a glass mosaic tile backsplash make for a modern beach home.
Entertaining guests was a priority for the clients. The walnut dining-room table the design team selected can seat up to eight, while four bar stools in the kitchen make for a cozy, casual dining experience.
When Diane Durocher was hired to redesign the Long Branch condo purchased by newlyweds, the directive
was simple: Make it fun, festive and fast. It was already autumn, and the couple hoped it would be ready
for vacationing and entertaining the following Memorial Day, only six months away. Casual comfort was
a key element. “This home needed to reflect their desire to kick off their shoes and just relax,” says Durocher, of
Ramsey-based Diane Durocher Interiors.
Durocher and her team set to work creating a sophisticated beach aesthetic that had a relaxed, welcoming
vibe—perfect for the family as well as many guests. To achieve it, walls were painted a sand color and the floors
stained a warm walnut shade. White trim and cabinetry balance the space. The color story continues throughout
the condo, into the master bedroom, which features a navy blue accent wall for contrast and drama. “It’s the
perfect backdrop for the white upholstered bed,” Durocher says. She accessorized with chrome, glass and shell
elements to carry the beach theme through. Nearby, a writing desk allows the homeowners the chance to work
practically beachside.
But a clean, fresh aesthetic wasn’t the couple’s only mandate. “Because it’s a vacation home, they didn’t want
to worry about anything breaking or being ruined,” Durocher adds. Porcelain tile in the hallways, foyer, kitchen
and guest bedroom make cleanup a cinch when sandy feet trample through after a day at the beach. In the living
room, a sectional with mocha chenille upholstery is both super-durable and houses a queen-size sleeper. The faux
leather ottoman doubles as a cocktail table, and the simple accessories, many sourced from Home Goods, ensure
laid-back comfort and style.

Blue accents in art, glassware, throw pillows and a chenille armchair add a soothing ocean vibe leading up to the white and neutral furnishings in the common space. The faux leather ottoman doubles as a cocktail table, and the sectional transforms into a queen sleeper, making entertaining easy.
The master bathroom was one of two that received a fresh update. They now feature Crema Marfil tile, white painted vanities, shell mirrors and artwork.
A navy blue accent wall adds a nautical-inspired element that complements the white furnishings, upholstered headboard, and bedding.
