Have you heard? Maximalism is in, and we’re ready to embrace it. White and natural palettes will always hold a special place in our hearts (and in our design sensibilities), but sometimes bold is the way to go.
One of our favorite ways to go bold is with wallpaper.
Whether you opt for a subtle application as an accent or cover a whole room with it, colorful, patterned wallpaper adds instant life and vibrancy to any space. We flipped through the NJ HOME archives looking for some inspiration, and we’ve curated this collection of designs for you:
The elegant Chinoiserie wallpaper from Brunschwig & Fils in this Ridgewood home, designed by Jennifer Pacca of the eponymous design studio, is decidedly dressy but never overwhelms the space. The bar cart adds a less formal touch.
Over in Chatham, the owners of this colonial trusted Emily Gerne and Genevieve Bottoni of EGB Interiors to ease them into the world of bold colors and patterns. The dining room, bathed in blue and complemented with a stunning Lotus wallpaper, proves that trust paid off.
This light-filled Avalon summer home achieves what designer Karen Wolf of K+Co. Living calls a “sunshine and mimosa” style—bright, happy and cozy. The entry foyer offers the perfect encapsulation of that with its mix of textures, artwork and beautifully floral wallpaper.
Offering the perfect blend of rustic and modern, this lakeside home in Ringwood is not lacking in charm. Designer Cozette Brown used A-Street Prints “Anemone” wallpaper from Brewster Home Fashions to give the small kitchen a fresh, modern feel.
Pam Cooper of Pam Cooper Interiors packs plenty of style into the powder room of this Basking Ridge home. The green and the large-scale “tree of life” pattern feel bright and alive, and the brass wall sconces and mirror complement it perfectly.
The wallpaper in the bathroom off the primary bedroom of this Summit home, designed by Stivale Graffam Home, is meant to be transportive, encouraging the mind to wander to far-off places. As a counter to the bold pattern, the sink and tiles are a simple, clean white.
Also designed by Cooper, this Far Hills home is filled with joyful color and pattern. In the very cheerful dining room, clean white trim and a white pendant light play counterbalance to the green and pink hydrangea wallpaper, which Cooper calls a “jumping off point” for the rest of the room.
